Media Resource Centers are spaces to support a wide variety of learning activities; used multiple ways throughout the day.  Traditionally, the library has been a quiet space to work independently or a space for a teacher to book for a class. Today’s school library, re-imagined as the Media Resource Center, is a versatile, state-of-the-art learning environment that supports collaborative, project-based work as well as individual formal work.  It’s flexible and adapts to student needs.

The Ed Specs serve to illustrate concepts that will inform the master plans based on OUSD's aspirations to the audience of future architects who will implement them as well as for OUSD stakeholders to understand the reasoning behind modernizations.

Acoustics

Are there enhanced acoustics to support multiple learning activities occurring simultaneously?

Seating Variety

Are there a variety of height and/or depth options for seating?

Whiteboards

Are there whiteboards to support movement-rich activities such as brainstorming?

Programmatic Synergy

With its size and support of multiuse learning, consider building placement near or adjacent to Cafeteria and/or special education. Also consider placement near teacher collaboration workrooms and/or resources to support more regular professional development.

Learning Hub

Highly visible and easily accessible to all learners. A centralized location within the campus communicates the importance of its function. It should serve as a social “hub” for school activity.
